L is for FALLing Leaves

God’s creation of the Autumn/Fall leaves is so beautiful to admire while driving, walking, climbing, running, cycling or jumping!  Explore the leaves with your toddlers.  Some activities to try:

Go on a nature walk to collect leaves…some small, some large, different types, birch bark, etc…

Place the vein side up (bumpy side) on a leaf, put it under a piece of paper and using a crayon colour gently over top.  The leaf will appear.

Using an ink pad, stamp a leaf (bumpy side up) on the pad and then apply to the paper.

To use up the leaves you have collected create a Thanksgiving wreath for your door.  Use a paper plate and glue a variety of leaves on to it.  Tape on to the front of your door!

Now…go make a pile of leaves and jump in them!  Don’t forget your camera.

An Apple Party

To begin our 3 year old (and their mom) Apple Party I read “10 Apples Up On Top” and then started to explore apples by making our own books.

We began with a title page:

Each child described their apple they brought from home and the moms wrote it on the apple cut out.

Each child guessed how many seeds were in their apple.

The moms cut open the apples (1/2, 1/4) and the children glued the seeds into their book.

We used half of an apple, with a toothpick to hold, to make apple prints.

Each family brought something with apples to share for lunch.  We enjoyed apple muffins, apple/cinnamon timbits, apple bars, apple chunks, apple juice and warm apples with cinnamon, sugar and raisins.

At the end of the party each child took home an apple chunk dipped in chocolate and smarties and placed on a natural stick from outside!  They were yummy.

I kept the pages to assemble the books when they were dry and intend to return them to each family.
